Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 bolt action rifle, .22 Hornet cal., 24" barrel, blue finish, checkered walnut one-piece pistol grip stock with sling swivels and period leather sling, steel bead ramped blade front sight with the rear removed and dovetail left vacant, clear factory markings with sharp Winchester "WP" proofs on the left side of the barrel and front ring, stamped "KILBOURN" under the caliber designation. The rifle is topped with a Redfield one-piece base, rings and an El Paso Weaver K-4 scope with a fine wire reticle, providing bright optics. Mfg. in 1947, the rifle is in near fine overall condition, retaining 85%-90% thinning finish with wear at the muzzle, scratches and damage on the crown that should not affect accuracy. The receiver shows light edge wear and thinning finish. The bottom metal and trigger guard show thinning finish and edge wear. The bolt is etched with the matching serial number. The stock is in near fine condition with dents and compressions, showing flattening of the checkering. The buttstock ends with a checkered steel buttplate with a widow’s peak, providing a 13.75" LOP. The bore is very good with light erosion and well-defined rifling. The action functions smoothly with a crisp trigger. Lysle Kilbourn was a well-known New York gunsmith who is credited with developing the K Hornet wildcat. (C&R).
