Colt Official Police double action revolver INSCRIBED: "U.S. COAST GUARD" on backstrap (and so referenced in the original factory letter) in .38 Special caliber w/ a 4" barrel displays ~97% blued finish to the gun’s parts w/ a polished hammer. The two-piece checkered walnut grips are excellent w/ two small cutouts at the lower front of the grips, likely for in-service lanyard loops.(NOTE: Factory letter confirms caliber, barrel length & finish PLUS notes "Factory Engraved: "U.S. Coast Guard" on the backstrap; Special Features referenced: "Furnished with a 1/10" ramp front sight and a 3 lb. trigger pull"; Sold To: "Commandant U.S. Coast Guard Depot"; Address: "Curtis Bay, Maryland; Shipped To: Joseph A. Lorch; Address: "1010 Vermont Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C."; Date of Shipment: "May 25, 1939"; Colt/Factory Order: "8427"; Number of Same Type Guns in Shipment: "25"). Markings are sharp, action crisp & the bore/rifling are excellent.
