George Goulcher full-stock black powder percussion Kentucky rifle, approx .58 cal., 33" octagon barrel, full-length hardwood stock with brass nose cap, pipes and hardware, patchbox and butt plate, brown finish, "G.GOULCHER" marked, engraved lock, replacement dovetailed German silver knife blade front and fixed deep "V" rear sights, legible markings. Mfg. 1840-1850, the rifle is in very good overall condition with scattered spots of surface erosion and light surface rust at the muzzle. The barrel has gone to an even brown patina. The lock and hammer show silvered color case hardened finish with spots of corrosion and edge wear. The stock is in very good condition with dents and nicks, showing years of carry and use. The buttstock ends with a smooth brass butt plate, providing a 12.75" LOP. The bore is dark with moderate to heavy erosion and shallow pitting and visible rifling. The action is not working at the time of description and will require repair. Goulcher was best known for producing locks and components for retail in the mid 19th century. (Pre-98; No FFL Required).
